Serving the Community
Serving the Community

At the beginning of this new academic year, we launched a Community Service programme for our Year 10 pupils. During every Wednesday activity time, pupils will take part in one of a number of community-minded activities for the benefit either of the school or the local community.

At SLC we place great emphasis on the importance of kindness and service to others, and this new initiative is intended to provide pupils with the opportunity to make a positive contribution to society, to demonstrate citizenship and to reinforce our community ethos. Activities include:

  • Visiting to a Care Home in Ramsgate
  • Helping at St Luke's Church, both within the church and with tea and coffee afternoons
  • Helping with the collection of litter from the streets around the School and into Ramsgate
  • Working together to prepare and put on two music concerts (one in November and one before Christmas) for the residents of a Care Home in Margate
  • Going to the Junior School to do 1:1 reading with Pre-Prep pupils, and to run an arts and crafts club, play board games and build Lego with our Prep School pupils
  • Helping the School Librarian
  • Creating a monthly SLC newspaper with a variety of articles about school life
  • Helping with the School archives and preparation for upcoming Old Lawrentian events
