International Families

St Lawrence College welcomes families from all over the World and overseas pupils make up almost 30% of our total pupil population. Most are boarders, though a few live in the local area with their families and join us as day pupils.

Our overseas boarders participate fully in the academic and pastoral life of the College, along with the sports and activities programmes. Some may need additional English support, whilst others will not.

We try to pre-test all overseas pupils to better assess their academic needs before they arrive. If this is not possible a level check test will be given on arrival.

We have a small but thriving EAL Centre for those pupils whose English level is not yet up to the task of studying all subjects comfortably in a new language. EAL pupils follow Cambridge ESOL examinations, beginning with the KET or PET examinations (Years 7 and 8 pupils) and moving on through IGCSE /E2L in Year 11 (equivalent to a GCSE pass) to IELTS, which is a qualification required for university entrance in the UK, Australia and the US. FCE and TOEFL can also be prepared, if necessary.

Pupils from outside the UK will require a Tier 4 visa prior to entering the UK and studying at the School.  St Lawrence College is recognised by the UKVI (UK Visa and Immigration Service) as a Tier 4 Sponsor and can issue a CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies) to pupils who are offered an unconditional place at the School. Please contact our admissions team for further details.

“The school is successful in providing opportunities for pupils of all abilities to gain academic success and develop their individual talents.”
