Mr G Carter

Position:

Chairman

Graham Carter spent a few years surveying and in advanced planning in Zambia. He returned to the UK in 1974 to join a national firm of Chartered Surveyors. In 2001 he became self-employed, working on a variety of projects, and became involved with SLC in 2005 in planning, designing and project managing the construction of the Sports Hall, Taylor Hall, Bellerby conversion and the first phase of sports facilities at Newlands. Graham is an Honorary Life Member of the Polo Farm Sports Club in Canterbury incorporating hockey, cricket, tennis and croquet, and has also been an active participant in Motor Cycle trials, Motocross, Cricket; Football and Hockey.

Dr G Hamill

Position:

Governor

Gavin Hamill was educated at St Lawrence College from 1983 – 1990. After leaving school he attended Brighton University where he completed BSc (Hons) in Podiatry before attending University of Wales College of Medicine where he completed his Bachelor of Dental surgery. Upon graduating from Cardiff Dental school he completed a vocational trainee year in Swansea before joining his father’s Dental Practice as an associate dentist. Since 2004 he has been the owner and Principal of Hamill Family Dental Practice. Gavin has been a parent at the school since 2008 with his children being the third generation of Hamill’s to be educated at St Lawrence College.

 


Mrs A Jameson

Position:

Governor

Abigail Jameson was educated at Monkton Combe School in Bath and then attended Durham University gaining a degree in History and subsequently a PGCE in Primary Education. Abigail has experience in independent prep schools and has taught various year groups in the state primary system. Her son is currently in the Pre-Prep at St Lawrence College. She is an active member of her church in Broadstairs and has a particular interest in early childhood development.

 


Mr J S Laslett

Position:

Governor

James Laslett was educated at St Lawrence College. He has a Business Studies degree from Kingston University, and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. He has worked in various financial roles in a number of businesses both large and small, from manufacturing to retail. Sporting interests include hockey, golf and tennis.

 


Mr N J Lawn

Position:

Governor

Nick Lawn was educated at St Lawrence College.  Following an early career as a landscape gardener and garden designer he obtained a degree in Building Surveying and became a Chartered Surveyor in 2000.  He is now a Director of a building surveying and architectural practice based in Folkestone.  Nick is a Trustee of the Battle of Britain Memorial Trust CIO and other interests include rugby, cricket and motorcycling.

 


Mrs R MacPhee

Position:

Governor

Rachel MacPhee has a first class Sociology and Social Policy undergraduate degree from the University of Sheffield. She has worked in Higher Education since 2005 and is a member of the Association of University Administrators, where she studied for a postgraduate qualification in Higher Education Administration. Rachel has worked in various management roles in Higher Education, including Director of Operations for the Division of Law, Society and Social Justice at the University of Kent. Interests include current affairs, fitness and cooking.

 


Mr N G Marchant

Position:

Governor

Nicholas Marchant was educated at St Lawrence College and is currently the Vice-President of the OL Society, having served several successful years as President. Managing Director of Screen4Life since 2006.

 


Mrs M Millin

Position:

Governor

Melissa Millin was called to the Bar in 1999 and is currently a practising Barrister and Head of the Family Law Department at Goldsmith Chambers where she has been since 2010.  Primarily, Melissa was a criminal practitioner but elected to develop her Civil and Family practice during her tenancy at the Chambers of Donald Gordon.  Before becoming a Barrister Melissa worked in the City.

 


Mr S C N Pullen

Position:

Governor

Simon Pullen was educated at Stowe School and after a period of time in the business sector, he became a history teacher in the state system. He has taught at secondary level in both selective and non-selective settings within Kent and has been a Headteacher for the past 12 years.

 


Rev. P Russell

Position:

Governor

Peter Russell is a priest in the Church of England and he is currently assisting at numerous churches within the Thanet deanery. He holds a degree in Religious Studies and was school chaplain at St Lawrence College for 10 years from January 2009. He is a trustee of Active Christianity in Thanet Schools and assists with collective worship at primary schools when he can. He is married and both of his children were educated at the College.

 


Mr J H Tapp

Position:

Governor

Jonathan Tapp attended St Lawrence College Junior School between 1968 and 1973 (then went to The Leys School, Cambridge until 1978). After leaving school he went to Newcastle University and gained a BSc (Hons) in Agriculture and is a member of Agricultural Management. He has been the Manager of the family business, Hatfeild Farms (along with his wife Vicky), since 1983 and Managing Director since 2008. Additionally, he was the Managing Director of St Nicholas Court Farms Ltd between 2008 and 2011. His children attended St Lawrence College. Jonathan brings experience in business management, business ethics, macroeconomics and statistics.

 


Mr T L Townsend

Position:

Governor

Tim Townsend was educated at St Lawrence College and has practised as a solicitor in Canterbury since 1984. Tim specialises in property law and is the managing partner of his practice. His administrative responsibilities include finance and compliance.
