Tug of War

Posted: 23rd May 2024

Under slightly wet skies and with a palpable sense of excitement, St Lawrence College hosted its eagerly anticipated annual Tug of War event on Chapel Green on Wednesday 22nd May. The vibrant event, organised by Mr Seth Simmons, the Director of Sport, brought together pupils from Years 9 to 13 in a spirited display of strength, teamwork, and pride.

The event featured mixed age group teams from each of the Senior Houses, with each House fielding both a junior and a senior team. The format, which has become a beloved tradition, ensures broad participation and fosters a strong sense of community across different year groups.

In a day filled with cheers and intense competition, Bellerby House emerged as the standout performers among the girls’ teams. Both the junior and senior teams from Bellerby demonstrated exceptional prowess and coordination, securing a clean sweep of victories.

Not to be outdone, Deacon House showcased their dominance in the boys’ section. Mirroring Bellerby’s success, both the junior and senior boys’ teams from Deacon House pulled their way to victory.

Mr Simmons praised the participants for their sportsmanship and enthusiasm, noting that the event was not only a test of physical strength but also of teamwork. “The Tug of War is always a highlight of our sporting calendar,” he said. “It’s wonderful to see pupils from different years working together and displaying such school spirit.”
