Junior School Receive Prestigious Quality Mark Award for teaching of Mathematics and English

Posted: 25th March 2022

St Lawrence College Junior School has been granted a prestigious Primary Quality Mark Award for its teaching of Mathematics and English.

The Quality Mark promotes, supports and celebrates progress and improvements made by a school in English and mathematics. To achieve a Quality Mark, schools have to undergo an assessment, carried out by an external accredited assessor, against the 10 ‘Elements’ of the Quality Mark framework.

The Junior School team embarked on gaining a Quality Mark award in direct response to the disruptions caused by Covid. The team wanted to proactively ensure that the Teaching and Learning was of the very highest standard, to enable children to recover and thrive after a challenging period.

This national accreditation is awarded to schools nationwide that meet the Quality Mark Standard and will last for two years, after which a renewal assessment is required.

The Junior School team embarked on gaining a Quality Mark award in direct response to the disruptions caused by Covid. The team wanted to proactively ensure that the Teaching and Learning was of the very highest standard, to enable children to recover and thrive after a challenging period. This award is the result of 12 months of research, self-evaluation, reflection, planning, implementation, assessment and review.

The feedback from Quality Mark reinforced the hard work that the team put into the award:

The school provides pupils with an engaging environment, which challenges them to become effective learners with a desire and enthusiasm to learn and expand their knowledge … there is a constant drive and ambition which is reflected in the staff. They share this enthusiasm with a constant desire to do better, to explore and investigate new ways of delivering effective and engaging lessons.

Reflecting on the achievement, Ellen Rowe, Head of the Junior School commented:

“It has been an important learning process for us all. One particularly meaningful aspect of this journey has been the ‘next steps’ provided by the Quality Mark team, so that we may continue to develop and prepare for our reassessment in two years’ time. In this regard we can stay at the very top of current teaching practice and education.”
