World Book Day at St Lawrence College

Posted: 3rd March 2022

World Book Day was a day to remember at St Lawrence College. For the 25th anniversary we had a whole day of activities planned including a morning fancy-dress parade, author workshops, discos and a book signing!

Children were all encouraged to come to school dressed up as either a character from their favourite book or in an outfit which represents a future career. We had a whole host of book characters as well as architects, teachers, builders and pilots. Even the teachers got involved in the fun!

We were honoured to have Tamara Macfarlane with us who entertained the children alongside her assistant Gilbert Giggles.. the ‘master of disaster’. And giggles there were! Children were thoroughly entertained and the stories they covered were brought to life.

Tamara Macfarlane has been a judge on The Costa, The UKLA and The Banford Boase book awards. Her book store chain, the Moon Lane Group, has been awarded Children’s Bookseller of the year in 2017, 2020 and 2021. It was a real treat for the children.

After these interactive workshops children let their hair down with a disco in the Roberts Hall complete with disco lights and music. There were a whole host of competitions including dance-offs, musical statues and even a long conga line!

At the end of the day all children received a £1 book token and were able to exchange this for one of the official 12 World Book Day selected books.

We want to thank all of the parents, friends, families and guardians who helped with the costumes today. They all looked brilliant and made the day so special.
