St Lawrence College Staff Sport New Facial Hair for Movember Campaign
In a hairy twist to the month of November, St Lawrence College students and staff have put down their razors and embraced their moustaches for a good cause. As part of the annual Movember campaign, teachers and pupils have joined forces to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues, particularly focusing on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention.
The usually clean-shaven faces on campus are now adorned with moustaches, marking the commitment of the college community to the Movember cause. The campaign, which originated in Australia in 2003, has since gained global traction, encouraging men to grow facial hair during November while seeking donations and sparking conversations about men’s health.
Mr Cackett, who is spearheading the St Lawrence College Movember initiative, expressed excitement about the enthusiastic participation across different departments. “It’s fantastic to see the campus community come together to support a cause that directly impacts the well-being of our colleagues and students,” he said. “The Movember campaign allows us to engage in important conversations about health and promote awareness on issues that often go undiscussed.”
The 2023 Movember campaign will conclude with the annual Le Crunch rugby fixture against Chatham and Clarendon Grammar School. For the first time the evening is a double header of games with ‘Le Petit Crunch’ taking place at 17:00 before the big game kicks off at 19:00.
