St Lawrence College pupil Sarah-Jane has been awarded the prestigious Miss Vyse Trophy at this year’s Thanet Music and Drama Festival, in recognition of her outstanding performances across three disciplines: Dance, Vocal Music, and Speech and Drama.
The Miss Vyse Trophy is awarded annually to the festival entrant who achieves the highest average mark across three categories. Sarah-Jane’s win recognises exceptional talent, technique, and expressive depth—hallmarks of the performing arts programme at St Lawrence College.
Her repertoire reflected exceptional range, and included:
- Speech & Drama: Lady Macbeth (Shakespeare), Saint Joan (George Bernard Shaw)
- Vocal Music: Ave Maria (Bach & Gounod), Hymn to God the Father (Pelham Humphrey), What I Did for Love (A Chorus Line)
- Dance: Ballet Solo from La Corsaire, Tap Trio to Word Up
The trophy was presented by Mr Matthew Brown, Head of St Lawrence College, during the Senior School’s Monday morning Chapel Assembly.
“This is an outstanding achievement from an outstanding performer,” said Kim Bourne, Sarah-Jane’s LAMDA teacher. “Her commitment to the arts and her ability to express such range and emotion across multiple disciplines is incredibly rare at her age.”
St Lawrence College has a long tradition of success in LAMDA examinations, musical theatre and ensemble performance. The College encourages pupils from Reception through Sixth Form to explore creativity through drama, speech and music, supported by expert teachers and professional opportunities.
Founded in 1921, the Thanet Music and Drama Festival remains one of the most respected performance platforms for young artists in Kent. Sarah-Jane’s recognition is a proud moment for the College and a reflection of her dedication and versatility as a young performer.
Congratulations, Sarah-Jane – your standing ovation was well deserved!
