Swimming

Swimming at St Lawrence College

Swimming is an essential part of life at St Lawrence College, offering pupils of all abilities the opportunity to enjoy the water—whether for fitness, fun, or high-level competition. We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment where every student can experience the benefits of swimming as a lifelong skill and activity.

A Lifelong Skill and Foundation for Wellbeing

We believe that swimming is not only a vital life skill but also a fantastic way to support physical fitness and personal wellbeing. Our programmes are designed to promote confidence in the water, physical development, and enjoyment, from early learners to those training for competitive success.

Facilities and Inclusive Access

Our on-site swimming pool allows pupils to swim throughout the year as part of both curriculum PE and co-curricular activities. All pupils are given opportunities to participate, regardless of prior experience. The pool is used for lessons, training, recreational swimming, and competitive events.

Pathways for Competitive Swimmers

For pupils interested in competitive swimming, we offer focused coaching led by Head of Swimming, Mr Dan Cross. Training sessions are designed to build strength, stamina, and stroke technique, with personalised support and progression for each athlete.

Our swimmers regularly represent the College at local and regional meets, and we are proud of the inclusive but ambitious culture that surrounds our swimming programme.

Water Polo

In recent years, we have expanded our aquatic offering to include water polo. Training and fixtures take place in the Summer term, providing a fun and fast-paced team sport that builds water confidence, teamwork, and endurance. This addition has quickly become a popular option within the co-curricular calendar.

Get Involved

Whether you are new to the water or training for competition, our swimming programme has a place for you. For more information or to get involved, please contact our Head of Swimming – Dan Cross at djrc@slcuk.com
