The annual Battle of the Bands and House Music competition once again brought the school together for an unforgettable evening of musical talent, friendly rivalry, and show-stopping performances. This year’s event showcased a remarkable range of styles, from timeless classics to contemporary hits, leaving the audience enthralled and the judges with the unenviable task of choosing winners.
The Battle of the Bands saw each house put forward their best musicians to compete for the coveted title. Kirby House set the tone with a smooth rendition of Fleetwood Mac’s Dreams, while Bellerby followed with a heartfelt and powerful performance of John Legend’s All of Me. Deacon brought the energy with Mr. Brightside by The Killers, while Lodge House opted for the soulful stylings of Frank Ocean’s Pink & White. Clifford delivered a ommanding performance of Coldplay’s Viva La Vida, and Laing took the audience on a nostalgic journey with ABBA’s SOS. However, it was Tower House that stole the show, electrifying the stage with their vibrant and charismatic interpretation of The Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose’s Too Late to Turn Back Now. Their confidence, chemistry, and sheer enthusiasm earned them the top spot, securing a well-deserved victory in the competition.
Following the high-energy spectacle of the Battle of the Bands, the House Music competition brought an equally thrilling display of vocal talent. Newlands House encouraged the crowd to let loose with an energetic performance of Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off, while Laing impressed with a slick rendition of Michael Jackson’s Thriller. Clifford House delivered a moving tribute to Amy Winehouse with Tears Dry on Their Own, while Tower showcased their vocal finesse with Stevie Wonder’s timeless Isn’t She Lovely. Lodge House embraced modern pop with Harry Styles’ Late Night Talking, and Deacon delivered a bold take on Fleetwood Mac’s Go Your Own Way. But it was Bellerby who emerged victorious, delivering a stunning, pitch-perfect rendition of Adele’s Rumour Has It, demonstrating not only technical excellence but also an undeniable stage presence that captivated the audience and judges alike.
The evening was a celebration of musical passion and dedication, with every performer contributing to an event brimming with enthusiasm and talent. As Tower House and Bellerby bask in the glory of their victories, students and staff alike are already looking forward to next year’s competition, eager to see what new talent will take to the stage.
