On September 20th, the College, in partnership with the Battle of Britain Historical Society, honored the legacy of Flight Officers James Tillett (1937) and John Allen (1933), both esteemed Old Lawrentians. The event brought together Royal Air Force cadets, St Lawrence College’s Combined Cadet Force (CCF) and members of the Royal British Legion, who stood proudly as Lady Colgrain, the Lord Lieutenant of Kent, inspected them.
The Combined Cadet Force (CCF) at St Lawrence College is a distinguished program that combines military training with leadership development for students. This organisation fosters discipline, teamwork, and resilience while providing young cadets with the skills and confidence to succeed both in and out of the classroom. The CCF emphasises personal growth, encouraging students to take on responsibilities and develop vital life skills.
The ceremony was further distinguished by the presence of special guests, including the Mayor of Ramsgate, Pat Moore; Flight Lieutenant Rich Little; and Inspector Jim Woodward.
Led by Chaplain Peter Russell, the service served as a poignant reminder to our students of the rich history and heritage embedded within the College. Chaplain Russell delivered an emotional homage to these courageous Old Lawrentians, reflecting on their sacrifices and the enduring spirit of service.
The event not only honoured the past but also aimed to inspire current students, to understand a deeper appreciation for the St Lawrence College’s heritage. We encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on the details of this significant service below.
