On Tuesday 25th June, St Lawrence College hosted the Big Sing in the College Chapel, featuring choirs from St Lawrence College, Chatham & Clarendon Grammar School, Ramsgate Holy Trinity CofE Primary School, and the Thanet Chamber Choir. The event showcased remarkable vocal talent, with a programme full of wonderful performances.
The evening opened with the Choir of Ramsgate Holy Trinity CofE Primary School, directed by Mr Sean Darrock, performing “Together We Fly” by the TNT Boys, “Ave Maria” by Caccini, and “Talking to the Moon” by Bruno Mars. Their performance set a high standard for the evening.
Next, the Kirby Choir of St Lawrence College, composed of Year 7 and Year 8 pupils and conducted by Mrs Georgie Owen, delivered a spirited rendition of the traditional sea shanty “The Wellerman.”
The Boys Choir of Chatham & Clarendon Grammar School, under Mr Sean Darrock, followed with powerful performances of “Hoist the Colours” from Pirates of the Caribbean, “The Parting Glass” by Sarah Quartel, and “May it Be” from Lord of the Rings.
The Senior Choir & Community Choir of St Lawrence College, conducted by Dr Jon Williams, showcased their versatility with pieces including “Wide Open Spaces” by Sarah Quartel, “One Note Samba” by Antonio Carlos Jobim, “Forty Second Street” by Harry Warren, “Gaelic Blessing” by Sir John Rutter, and “Fly Me to the Moon” by Bart Howard.
A highlight was when all choirs united to sing “And So It Goes” by Billy Joel, really raising the roof.
The evening concluded with the Thanet Chamber Choir’s performance of Howard Goodall’s “Great Big Tunes” and a medley from Les Misérables, providing a fitting end to a wonderful musical event.
