Location
St. Lawrence College is located in Ramsgate, a small and
historic seaside town of around 50,000 inhabitants, in an area
known as Thanet. Ramsgate boasts some fine architecture dating from
the Regency period, when it prospered first as a garrison town. Its
Royal Harbour is one of the finest on the South Coast. Since
Victorian times, it has been better known as a resort town, visited
by thousands of tourists every summer. Ramsgate has been the home
of many famous artists, writers and thinkers: Van Gogh, J M W
Turner, Augustus Pugin, Charles Dickens and Samuel Taylor Coleridge
– to name only a few!
Ramsgate has a historic marina and is well known for beautiful
sandy beaches, coastal walks and sailing.
There are excellent golf courses nearby and plenty of opportunity for water sports and riding. Ramsgate is situated in the county of Kent (known as ‘The Garden of England’), within easy reach of beautiful countryside and typical English villages. The historic city of Canterbury is only 25 minutes away by road or rail.
St. Lawrence College is situated 10 minutes walking distance
from the town centre and 15 minutes from the sea, on a safe and
very secure campus, in 19 hectares of beautiful grounds and sports
fields. Westwood Cross, our nearest large shopping mall is a 10
minute bus journey away. There is an excellent bus service which
links the five Thanet towns of Broadstairs, Ramsgate, Margate,
Westgate and Birchington.
Ramsgate is 30 minutes from the port of Dover for the shorter car
ferry routes to Calais, in Northern France.
