We are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Craig Boyne as Head of Hockey & Elite Performance from April 2026.
Mr Boyne is an accomplished school leader, Director of Sport, and former international hockey player for Australia. He brings an exceptional combination of expertise, strategic vision, and passion to further enhance the College’s outstanding hockey and elite performance provision.
Mr Boyne currently serves as Deputy Head and Director of Sport at Wellesley Haddon Dene School, where he has successfully developed a high-quality sporting programme while contributing significantly to the school’s strategic leadership. Prior to this, Mr Boyne was Head of Hockey, Tennis and Elite Sport at Kent College Senior School, providing him with extensive experience in building and managing elite performance pathways, developing coaching staff, and delivering success at both grassroots and national competition levels.
Alongside his teaching and leadership career, he is also Head Men’s Player/Coach at Canterbury Hockey Club, where he continues to work with athletes from school age to senior level, including those competing at the highest tiers of the sport. His own playing career offers invaluable insight; as a member of the Australian national squad during their tenure as world number one, he had the privilege of playing with and being coached by some of the best in the world. This experience has given him a deep understanding of the standards, resilience, and commitment required to succeed at the elite level.
Reflecting on his appointment, Mr Boyne said:
“I am particularly drawn to this role at St Lawrence College not only because of its rich hockey tradition and record of success, but also because I have seen first hand the strength of the College community. I would be immensely proud to contribute to its continued growth and success.”
Mr Boyne is passionate about both sport for all and elite performance. He firmly believes in creating pathways that nurture emerging talent while ensuring every pupil develops a lifelong love of physical activity.
Director of Sport, Mr Simmons, commented:
“Mr Boyne has been a consistent role model for young, talented, homegrown players throughout Kent for many years. Having won the AHL twice, four club premierships in Perth, the England Hockey Premier Division title with Beeston HC, and having represented his country, Mr Boyne knows what it takes to reach the top.”
St Lawrence College warmly welcomes Mr Boyne to the St Lawrence College family. We look forward to the opportunity for Mr Boyne to work with colleagues, pupils, parents, and partners, such as Canterbury Hockey Club and Cliftonville Hockey Club as we continue to strengthen and advance hockey at our nationally recognised school.
