Ramsgate Week returned this summer with a packed schedule of competitive sailing, community events, and coastal celebration. First held in 1898, the regatta has been a highlight on the sailing calendar for over 125 years, almost as long as St Lawrence College has been part of the Ramsgate landscape, having welcomed its first pupils in 1879.
This year’s regatta ran from 20th to 25th July, with races taking place along the stunning Ramsgate coastline and surrounding waters. Organised by the Royal Temple Yacht Club, the event attracted crews and spectators from across Europe. Beyond the racing itself, Ramsgate Week featured a lively programme of live music and social events throughout the town and harbour, making it a key occasion for the whole community.
As a sponsor for 2025, St Lawrence College was proud to continue its support for this important local event. The College’s involvement reflects its commitment to nurturing young talent and promoting values such as leadership, teamwork and sportsmanship – qualities that align closely with the spirit of Ramsgate Week. The event also presents an opportunity to strengthen ties with the Royal Temple Yacht Club, with future plans to explore ways of getting pupils out on the water and more actively involved.
As part of the College’s involvement, Head of College Matthew Brown attended the end-of-week prize-giving and presented a number of trophies, including the Lawrentian Cup, which is awarded to the Cruiser Boat of the Week. This marked Mr Brown’s first experience of Ramsgate Week, having joined the College in September, and reflected the school’s ongoing commitment to community involvement and local partnerships.
The sponsorship aligns closely with the College’s values of leadership, teamwork and sportsmanship; principles that are central to both education and sailing. Looking ahead, the College hopes to deepen its relationship with the Royal Temple Yacht Club.
Ramsgate Week continues to be an excellent showcase of the town’s coastal culture and vibrant maritime heritage. St Lawrence College is proud to have supported this year’s event and looks forward to returning in 2026.
