St Lawrence College is thrilled to announce a collaboration with Thanet Athletics Club, aiming to bolster the growth of athletics within the local community. This partnership will leverage the strengths of both institutions to provide enhanced training opportunities and promote sports participation across all age groups.

Seth Simmons, Director of Sport at St Lawrence College, expressed: “We are excited to contribute to the growing sport in the local community. Partnering with Thanet Athletics Club allows us to extend our resources and expertise beyond the campus, fostering a culture of athletic excellence throughout the area.”

Julien Lawton, Chair of Thanet Athletics Club, highlighted the significance of this alliance: “To work in partnership with the iconic St Lawrence College, renowned for its sporting success and community engagement, is a fantastic opportunity for Thanet Athletics Club. To get the use of the fantastic facilities for our winter training has been a real bonus and evidence of our close working bond. This collaboration underscores the potential for us to engage with other sports within the community, broadening our impact and reach.”

Since its inception in 2010, Thanet Athletics Club has rapidly established itself within Kent, offering training in sports hall events, track and field, and cross-country. The club prides itself on creating a welcoming environment for athletes of all abilities, starting from age seven. In a recent achievement Bethany Shimmen-Smith kicked off her season in style at the London Indoor Games, securing three personal bests. She leaped 4.61m in the long jump, stormed through the 200m in 28.42s, and cleared 1.45m in the high jump—a 7cm improvement on her previous best. St Lawrence College, recently ranked among the top 4% of the nation’s sporting schools, boasts a strong tradition of athletic achievement. The College offers a wide array of sports, including cricket, rugby, hockey, netball, water polo, squash, golf, badminton, football, and basketball, encouraging students to pursue excellence both on and off the field.

This partnership is set to create new avenues for community members to engage in athletics, combining the expertise and facilities of both organisations to nurture talent.
