Visit to Bisley

Gentlemen at Bisley

During a recent visit to the Rifle Club at Bisley, Alistair Mitchellhill and Tim Wagland warmly welcomed our External Relations Officer, proudly showcasing their lockers where the club’s rifles are stored. The system for maintaining and cleaning the firearms was impressive, highlighting the meticulous care that goes into the sport. Shortly after, other Old Lawrentians arrived, including Andi Parker-Smith, Christopher Laing, and Jeremy Robinson, ready for a day of competitive shooting.

The event kicked off at 300 yards, with a mix of seasoned shooters and enthusiastic spectators. Andi set the pace early with an impressive score of 33.3, leading the group. At the 500-yard range, all members hovered around scores in the 33 range, while Christopher Laing fell slightly behind. However, as we moved to 600 yards, Christopher made a stunning comeback, scoring 34.3. In the end, though, it was Andi Parker-Smith who emerged victorious, maintaining his strong performance throughout.

One of the highlights of the day came when a St Lawrence employee was given the opportunity to fire at 600 yards. Though initially nervous, the Old Lawrentians offered expert coaching, helping adjust the rifle’s settings to match the shooter’s aim. After a few practice rounds, the shooter scored one bullseye and an inner—an impressive near-bullseye shot.

This experience was exhilarating and demonstrated the exceptional support within the Rifle Club. The sport, combined with the community spirit, makes it an unforgettable activity, and the club warmly encourages anyone interested to get involved.
