The Coronation of Elizabeth II took place on 2 June 1953 at Westminster Abbey in London. Her Majesty was the thirty-ninth Sovereign to be crowned at Westminster Abbey.
We are extremely lucky to possess archives that date back over 140 years at St Lawrence College, one of which is the Coronation article shown below.
Our Lawrentian magazine dates back to 1879 and provide a real insight into life at the school during the era in which they were written – an amazing historical gem.
The extract below was written by excited pupils who were eagerly awaiting and celebrating the Queen’s coronation, nearly 70 years ago. Our alumni are very important to us and our Old Lawrentians very much remain an integral part of the school.
We were delighted to see that the pupils back in 1953 celebrated the momentous occasion with a picnic, much like our Junior School children did last Friday.
