Old Lawrentian Society Newsletter

Dear St Lawrence College Alumni,

As we near the end of another year, I want to reflect on our progress and outline the exciting opportunities ahead. This year, we’ve seen significant growth and reconnection within our alumni community. With a newly dedicated team in place, we’ve relaunched events and initiatives to strengthen our bonds and create meaningful collaborations.

Our efforts rely on both our core team’s commitment and your active participation. I’m excited to work with Nick Marchant (Vice President of Alumni) and our team, including Claire, Africa, and Jo, to ensure shared clarity and purpose in our endeavors. Last year’s London Drinks gathering set a great tone and this year’s Cricket Week highlighted the momentum in our alumni community, with a renewed calendar of events providing a basis for better visibility and coordination for all.

Looking ahead, we’re excited about the End of Year Dinner in December (which is still to be confirmed with exact dates) and an upcoming Careers Fair, which has garnered overwhelming interest. These events reflect the strength of our alumni-school connection, and we’re committed to nurturing that bond. Additionally, I’m proud to sponsor the upcoming Leaders Forum, which will bring together influential figures from within the Alumni to exchange ideas and opportunities for the benefit of our network.

As we focus on building a more interconnected alumni network, we’ll emphasise mentorship, career development, and social impact. We ask also for the involvement of our beloved Parents and carers, Parents and Carers of current students will also play a key role, offering fresh perspectives to enhance the alumni experience. I encourage each of you to get involved and share your ideas as we continue to grow together.

Warm regards,

Raphael de Souza

Dear Old Lawrentians,

I am always overwhelmed by the deep connection that you all have with St Lawrence College. It is because of this incredible bond that our school truly feels like a family.

The recent Battle of Britain commemoration was a perfect example of this, as it brought together our community to honor the bravery and sacrifices of those who served. The day was filled with unity and gratitude, making it an unforgettable experience. Thank you to everyone who took part and contributed to its success.

I’d also like to highlight my recent visit to the Rifle Club, where I witnessed firsthand the sense of tradition that makes our community so special. The warmth and connection among Old Lawrentians were remarkable.

Similarly, welcoming Mona Mustafa back to campus was an absolute pleasure. Her inspiring journey since leaving St Lawrence College serves as a powerful reminder of the impact our alumni have both on our current students and in the world beyond.

Looking ahead, I am excited to announce that we will be planning more events in 2025 to offer even more opportunities for you all to stay engaged with our vibrant community. Thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming gatherings.

Warm regards,

Claire Tyler

Founders Day

St Lawrence College, originally known as South Eastern College, was founded on October 27, 1879, in Ramsgate, Kent, with just five pupils. The school, deeply rooted in its Christian ethos, was renamed St Lawrence College in 1906, reflecting its connection to the local St Lawrence area. Since its inception, the college has expanded and adapted through challenging times, including both World Wars, during which the college was evacuated but continued its mission.

Throughout its 145-year history, St Lawrence College has relied heavily on the generosity of its community. Support from alumni, parents, and friends of the school has enabled it to grow and thrive. The generosity of this community has been instrumental in maintaining and enhancing the facilities, funding scholarships, and ensuring that future generations of students can continue to benefit from the values of education, integrity, and service that define St Lawrence College. This spirit of giving fosters a sense of belonging and reinforces the college’s mission of nurturing both academic and personal excellence.

Regular Giving

The generous donations from Old Lawrentians play a crucial role in enhancing the educational experience for current students at St Lawrence College. These contributions help fund scholarships, improve/build facilities, and support a wide range of extracurricular activities, ensuring students have access to the resources they need to thrive both academically and personally. From sports pavilions to outstanding classrooms, every donation directly enriches the school environment and provides opportunities that shape the future of each student.

By committing to regular giving, Old Lawrentians ensure the long-term sustainability of these initiatives, creating a lasting legacy that continues to benefit generations of Lawrentians to come.

We encourage you to consider making a regular contribution to support the next wave of St Lawrence College students. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a significant impact.
