Year 5 stepped back in time on Friday for Victorian Day, bringing their History topic to life in a memorable and immersive way.
After reading Michael Rosen’s modern take on A Christmas Carol, pupils experienced a Victorian classroom and met Thomas Gradgrind, the strict, fact-obsessed teacher from Dickens’ Hard Times. They also enjoyed the wonderful West End in Schools performance of Scroogical The Musical before returning to class for parlour games, Victorian Christmas traditions and wooden decoration making.
A fantastic day of learning, creativity and festive fun. ✨

Our Junior School recently came together for our annual Poetry Recital, with every year group from Nursery to Year 6 taking to the stage.
Pupils delivered thoughtful, expressive and confident performances, showcasing their growing love of language and the spoken word. It was wonderful to see each class bring something unique, and to watch even our youngest pupils performing with such enthusiasm.
A huge well done to all of our young poets for a fantastic showcase of creativity and confidence. ✨

Last week was incredible for our Junior School hockey girls. The team began at the Tier 1 U11 Championships at King’s Canterbury, where the standard of talent was outstanding. Despite the relentless rain, the girls showed real determination, resilience and hard work, representing the school brilliantly in a very competitive tournament.
On Wednesday the A team finishing with a 4–4 draw and the B team securing a well-deserved 1–0 win.
To round off the week, our U9s took part in a tournament at Junior King’s, winning one match and narrowly losing two. Their progress over the season has been fantastic to see.

Today, the children in Pre-Prep came together to remember and honour Remembrance Day. We spent the day creating beautiful poppy-inspired crafts. At 11am, we paused for two minutes of silence - a wonderful moment of stillness whilst watching the “Poppies” animation on @bbciplayer. A beautiful animation following a young rabbit through the poppy fields, with a message of peace and hope. #rememberanceday #weremember
Our Junior School football team won the Plate at this year’s Metherell Cup after a brilliant day of football and teamwork.
The team found their stride in the knockout rounds, securing a 2–0 win in the semi-final and a 1–0 victory in the final to lift the Plate. Five goals from five different scorers summed up a true team effort and a well-deserved result.
A fantastic achievement and a proud moment for everyone involved. 🏆

Each year, our Junior School takes part in Making a Difference Day, a special tradition dedicated to kindness and community. This term, our Year 5 pupils crafted thoughtful gifts and personally delivered them to the incredible people who support our school every day, including catering, cleaning, maintenance, bus, admin and volunteer teams.
It was their way of saying thank you to those who make such a difference to life at SLC. 💐
