Netball

Netball at St Lawrence College

Netball is the performance sport for girls in the Lent term, but as with all our major sports, training takes place throughout all three terms. St Lawrence College promotes a love of netball across all ability levels, ensuring that pupils are supported whether they’re just beginning or competing at a regional level.

Inclusive and Competitive

With ten teams operating across different age groups, there are plentiful opportunities for pupils to represent the school in fixtures and tournaments. Our teams regularly compete against other schools, and we welcome players at all levels—from recreational participants to aspiring county athletes.

Facilities

Our netball facilities include six high-quality outdoor courts and one indoor court, allowing for year-round training and competition. These facilities also enable us to host a variety of school tournaments and support local league play.

Expert Coaching and Development

Each of our teams benefits from an experienced and qualified coach, ensuring age-appropriate guidance and support. Fixtures take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, depending on age group and team level. Our programme is structured to encourage gradual improvement in gameplay, confidence, and fitness, while fostering a lifelong enjoyment of the sport.

Club and County Pathways

St Lawrence College maintains a strong link with Aces Netball Club, who run regular netball camps throughout the year. These camps are open to all SLC pupils and offer additional opportunities for development and exposure to high-level coaching.

Many of our pupils play in the local adult league from March to June, gaining valuable match experience outside of school fixtures. Talented players are entered for Kent county trials, where our athletes have consistently been successful in gaining representative honours.

Adele Skinner

Adele Skinner
Position:
Head of Netball

Having been involved in Sport throughout her childhood, Miss Skinner grew an early aspiration to become a Teacher of Physical Education. Having graduated from Loughborough University with a Post Graduate Certificate in Education with QTS, she has since moved to Kent where she worked within schools in Canterbury and Maidstone as a PE teacher and Head of Netball before joining St Lawrence College. During her time as Head of Netball in previous institutions, Miss Skinner further developed a Netball programme which focuses on both performance and inclusivity, leading multiple teams to unbeaten seasons.

Miss Skinner’s early playing career is nothing short of impressive, having captained her college and university sides to National Schools and National College finals. Alongside this, she has competed at the highest level through her university career by regularly competing in the BUCS league, as well as County, Premier and Regional teams/academies. Miss Skinner is still an avid Netballer, who alongside her playing career still finds involvement through regular coaching and utilising her umpiring qualification. Since moving to Kent, Miss Skinner has established further links in the County with teams such as London Pulse and England Mixed Netball.

Having received scholarships at an early age and being involved in an elite Netball academy since 16 as both a player and a coach, her focus is to build upon the great foundations that have been set at SLC and continue to develop the Netball programme to achieve the best for all our students.
