Cameron
Cameron House caters for Boarders in Years 7 and 8 at St Lawrence College. Around half of the Cameron pupils enter from outside the College, with the other half transferring from Year 6 of the Junior School.
The boarding house has good facilities including a television lounge, kitchen with microwave, kettle, toaster and tuck lockers, a games room with pool and table tennis, a library and of course homely dormitories.
Close pastoral supervision is provided with a housemaster, team of tutors, boarding mother and 6th Form Prefects all helping to provide care and guidance. Boys and girls have all the advantages of being part of a Senior School (teaching, sports facilities etc), but they enjoy the closer attention from the pastoral team, which is necessary for that age group, as well as more appropriate amounts of time for supervised prep and for leisure. The pupils are helped over the two years to become more independent and self-reliant, ready for their transfer to a senior house in Year 9.
Leisure activities such as swimming or visits to the cinema are organised and pupils have a range of facilities to use during free time.
House spirit is fostered through sports competitions against Courtenay House (day pupils in parallel age group), although this rivalry is strictly friendly. In fact the two houses mix in the Middle School and in classes during the school day. Friendships are not formed on house lines and indeed many boarders are invited to day pupils' homes at weekends or other holiday times.
