Hockey Connor

At St Lawrence College, hockey takes centre stage for girls in the Michaelmas term and boys in the Lent term, with training running year-round. Students develop their skills through three weekly games lessons and two activity sessions, whether they are beginners or experienced players. In the Junior School, we focus on teaching core skills and gameplay, while in the Senior School, we help students master advanced techniques and fluent hockey styles.

Our expert coaches create an environment that boosts development, improves performance, and deepens understanding of the game. We teach values like teamwork, leadership, and commitment, preparing pupils to excel both on and off the pitch.

We regularly use our Olympic-standard water-based and sand astroturfs, as well as our state-of-the-art sports centre for indoor hockey and fitness sessions, to enhance performance. These exceptional facilities support our tradition of hockey excellence, which leads to consistent national achievements. Recently, our U15 boys secured 2nd place in the 2024 Nationals, and our U16 girls earned 2nd place in the Tier 2 National Finals at Lee Valley.

Hockey Programme

At St Lawrence College, our comprehensive hockey programme offers outstanding opportunities for players of all ages and abilities, ensuring every student can thrive and reach their potential. With world-class facilities and expert coaching, we provide a clear pathway for development, from foundational skills to elite-level performance.

Junior Sports Development Programme (Ages 11-13)

We start nurturing talent early through our Junior Sports Development Programme. Students focus on mastering core skills, developing game intelligence, and building confidence on the pitch. This programme sets the foundation for future success while creating a love for the game.

Our Hockey Academy builds on the skills developed in the Junior programme, focusing on advanced techniques, teamwork, and match play. Students benefit from regular high-level coaching and competitive opportunities to challenge and inspire them as they progress.

For senior students, the Sports Excellence Programme provides a platform to excel at the highest level. Combining expert training, fitness sessions, and match experience, this programme equips students with the skills and discipline needed to compete at regional, national, and international levels.

We offer a range of exciting opportunities beyond lessons:

  • Indoor Hockey (Ages 15–18): Students refine their skills and tactics through fast-paced, high-energy indoor hockey sessions.
  • Pre-Seasons (Open to all ages): Our pre-season training prepares students for the competitive calendar, ensuring they start each season strong and confident.
  • Hockey Camps (Open to all ages): Open to all skill levels, our camps provide intensive coaching and fun, helping players sharpen their game.
  • Tours: Students can participate in unforgettable hockey tours, experiencing international competition and building lifelong memories.

Achievements

At St Lawrence College, our hockey teams consistently perform at an exceptional level, showcasing their talent and dedication on a national stage. Here are some of our recent successes:

We are proud to have been ranked among the Top 200 Sports Schools in the UK for the past two years, placing us in the top 4% of schools nationwide. This recognition highlights the excellence of our sports programme and the dedication of our students and coaches.

These achievements reflect the strength of our hockey programme, the dedication of our players, and the expertise of our coaching team. With a focus on teamwork, skill development, and sportsmanship, we continue to nurture future champions.

“I was able to use the Sports Excellence Programme to develop and enhance my hockey skills, these are generally targets/goals that my England U18 coaches have set me. In addition to this the teachers are there to support on a 1-to-1 to basis.”
