Key Stage 2 (Years 3 - 6)
Establishing the Skills to Succeed
"The pupils' knowledge, understanding and skills are developed well in all subjects and particularly well in the core subject areas of English, Maths and Science. Pupils are successful at winning places at local senior schools, both selective maintained and independent."ISI INSPECTION REPORT 2015
In Years 3-6, whilst the core subjects of English, Maths and Science take priority, the curriculum continues to broaden. After a gentle introduction, French becomes a key academic subject. A strong emphasis is put on technology, and embedding ICT across the curriculum. All this is underpinned by Teaching and Learning Skills, now a timetabled subject, which teaches children how to learn.
Pupils benefit more and more from specialist teaching, and from access to exceptional facilities and resources. They make the most of practical, investigative and interactive learning activities. Regular Enrichment Days, field trips and visits encourage them to think for themselves, to take increasing responsibility for their own learning, and to understand their social, moral and environmental obligations.
As well as achieving results in Key Stage 2 SATs which are well above national expectations, Junior School pupils have a proud record of success at gaining Senior School scholarships. And for those who may pursue their secondary education elsewhere, focused preparation for the 11+ Kent Test is a key consideration.
Ultimately, the school is well aware that every child must be equipped with a battery of skills to thrive in an extremely competitive world, and to make the most of a future which will doubtless hold many challenges and surprises.
