Director of Sport: Mr Adam Izzard.  email: ai@slcuk.com

St Lawrence College has an ever increasing reputation for sporting success in both boys'  and girls sport.  Our pupils achieve personal and team success both within school and outside it.  Our aim is to foster an ethos of sporting achievement as well as the increasing need for a healthy lifestyle beyond the school gates.

The sports facilities are extensive and impressive.  There are five rugby pitches, two floodlit astroturf pitches, a state-of-the-art Sports Hall, 23 hard tennis courts, 3 football pitches, 3 cricket pitches, a grass athletics track, 2 squash courts, 8 netball courts and a heated indoor Swimming Pool.  The fitness centre is very popular with students, including Concept 2 rowing machines, running machines, cross-trainers, cycles and weights.  There is also a dance studio, a basketball court, five badminton courts and a fantastic modern indoor climbing wall.

All the major sports are played to a good standard.  The most impressive element of sport at St Lawrence is how we manage to field teams at all age groups to a relatively good standard when we take into account the small numbers currently at the school.  The U15 rugby team in 2010 had an unbeaten season which is an incredible achievement.

We have a good tradition in both boys and girls hockey and the standards are still improving further.  With the addition of more specialist staff we can only continue to flourish in this area.  All games are now played on artificial surfaces and there has been a significant increase in quality as a consequence.  Girls play hockey in the Michaelmas Term, and boys in the Lent Term.

Cricket is the main summer sport for boys, with tennis the equivalent for the girls.  Having ex Hampshire cricket semi-pro Seth Simmons on the coaching staff has begun to make a big difference not only to the skill level of the boys but also with their psychological approach to the game.  Girls tennis has long been established as one of the schools real strengths and this continues to flourish under the expert guidance of Mrs Jones and Miss Bailey.  Alongside these major summer sports we also have individual and team success in athletics, boys tennis and rounders.

The wide range of sports on offer continue to improve in standard with the most notable examples being squash, football, golf, badminton, and basketball.

The enjoyment of sport that is fostered at school continues beyond St Lawrence.  The Old Lawrentians continue to enjoy playing their sports well beyond their school years and it is pleasing to see the numbers that continue to return to play against their relevant school 1st teams on an annual basis.

We are determined to build on our strong foundation of sporting success, and keep as many pupils as possible representing their school in as many sports as possible.  Sport will always remain a vital part of education and we are making every effort to retain our depth, variety and improving excellence of sport.

With that in mind, sports scholarships at 11+, 13+ and 16+ are available for entry in September 2011 and beyond.  These will be available to all prospective pupils.  For further details please contact our registrar, Alison Hall - ah@slcuk.com.
