Sports Day

This year's inter-house track and field Sports Day took place in brilliant sunshine amidst a carnival atmosphere.  The Pimms tent, innovated by Mrs Glynn-Brooks last year was again popular and was joined this time by another refreshment outlet selling soft drinks and ice-cream, overseen by Mr Bryant.

The competition itself saw the boarders in fine form.  Bellerby reigned supreme in both Junior and Senior Girls' competitions, whilst Tower took the Junior Boys' event and Lodge the Senior Boys'.  In the Middle School, Cameron's boys were victorious but when the girls' results were tallied, incredibly Cameron and Courtenay had amassed identical point scores!

Once again, the senior school records remained intact, but amongst the younger ranks there were signs of greater things to come.

Tamara Vint soared over the High Jump bar, twice breaking Zoe Anderson's Junior Girls' record and finishing her allotted seven jumps on 1m 40cm.

Sophie Mayes, who had broken Jade Bond's Middle School Girls' 300m record in 2010, lowered her time further to 48.98s, watched by an excited mother, stopwatch in hand!

Earlier in the afternoon, Sophie had also claimed the 800m title in 2:58.34, demolishing Stephanie Farrell's record and becoming the first Kirby girl to go under 3:00 in competition.

Max Farnell shattered Will Bowra's Middle School Boys' Javelin record, throwing 34m 15cm.  This is equivalent to a Grade 1 performance on the AAA National Standards.

Max also set a new Middle School Boys' 100m record, in 13.56s, overhauling Alfredo Furmanek's previous landmark.

The PA system, borrowed for the day from the Junior School, enabled Mr Anderson to announce events and results swiftly and the dedicated efforts of a large number of staff and pupils aided the smooth flow of proceedings throughout the afternoon.

All in all it was a very successful occasion, enjoyed enormously by competitors and spectators alike.
