Snowdonia Trip for 2nd Form
All forty one members of the second form left for Blue Peris Activity Centre in Snowdonia on Tuesday 3rd May. There was much excitement but also some uncertainty. With two stops on the way the group arrived after the eight hour journey at 5 p.m. and had supper followed by a briefing, making of beds, allocating of duties and issuing of kit.
The Wednesday activity for two groups was a day of sea level traversing whilst the others had two half day activities of rock climbing and kayaking. On Thursday, the groups swapped over the activities from the previous day. On Friday each of the four groups had a mountain walk with one group heading to the top of Snowdon (1085m), whilst others climbed Mynydd Sygyn (390m, 6km walk), Tryfan (917m) and Cnicht (689m).
During each of the evenings all the pupils were involved in problem solving tasks, a ropes course or a night line course.
The three aims were to have fun, to be tested and be reflective. Each evening the pupils wrote a diary of the days events hopefully identifying their strengths, areas of concern and what they had enjoyed the most.
It was amazing to see how the children responded to the challenges they faced. Quiet pupils blossomed whilst some of the more confident clearly were outside their comfort zone. Others found it tough but kept going. However, all of them had lots of fun and felt they benefited from the experience.
Unsurprisingly the journey home, although long, was very quiet!
All the staff (Mr & Mrs Jones, Mr Riordan and Ms Quigley) thoroughly enjoyed the trip and were very pleased by the behaviour and the commitment of the all the pupils.
