Pictured here, some of the delighted students from Years 8 and 9, who passed their Cambridge PET examination with flying colours the results came out on 30th June and were the best ever, according to records. A record number of 17 students sat the examination this summer.
With a pass rate of 70%, the PET examination (Preliminary English Test) is no easy task. Using accurate and appropriate English in a wide variety of social contexts is required from writing business letters to discussing the pros and cons of wearing school uniform. Students are expected to read and understand a variety of different English styles and respond to them appropriately.
The PET examination is open to students of any age, our pupils, at 13 to 14 years being some of the youngest entrants in the country. For the first time this year, a system of extended certification has been rolled out which means that all CIE examination results will be related to the CEFR (A1 to C2) levels and an internationally recognised grade awarded.
The pass rate this summer was 100% with 70% of students receiving a pass with merit that is a total mark of 85% or more.
