Olympic Flame Event
On Wednesday 2nd November ten students were nominated by their Housemaster/Housemistress to accompany Gary Davies(Tower Housemaster) to the Coca Cola Future Flames event at Christ Church University in Canterbury. This was an opportunity for the students to hold the Olympic Torch and have their photograph taken with it.
The event was organised by the Students Union at the University and was opened by Sean Kerly MBE former English field hockey player, who was a member of the gold winning Great Britain and Northern Ireland squad at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. Four years earlier, at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, he secured the bronze medal with his team. Kerly scored the winning goal in the bronze medal match in LA against Australia (2-1), and a hattrick in the semi final against the same opponent in 1988.
St Lawrence students were able to meet former Olympians and have their pictures taken with them, as well as try out some new sports such as Rush Hockey, which will not be in the Olympic Games, yet!
