Inter-House Masterchef Competition
Cooking Just Doesn't Get Tougher Than This!
The first ever Inter-House Masterchef competition has been held at St. Lawrence College. A team from each of the 5 Senior Houses had 1½ hours to prepare and serve a two-course meal for 4 people. Two of the team could cook and one was pot washer!
The event was organised by Jane Green, Head of Home Economics, who was also one of the judges. The competition was adjudicated by restaurateur Johnny Dunhill (owner of Eddie Gilbert's restaurant and fishmonger's in Ramsgate) and Glyn Scott (clinical nurse and specialist nutritionist), both of whom have children at the College. Marks were awarded for skills shown, presentation, nutritional balance of dishes and taste. It was a close-fought contest and the winners, after much deliberation, were Lodge House, with an Asian-inspired menu of pineapple stuffed with mixed seafood, pineapple and fried rice, accompanied by steamed aubergine and pork ribs with chef's special sauce and a chocolate mousse with strawberries.
The Lodge House winning team were: Chefs Simon Chik and Leo Alizade, and pot washer Sajat Rai.
Simon Chik said of the evening: "It just proves that not only girls can cook! Seriously though, I felt proud of myself, our team and Lodge House. Our thanks go to Mr and Mrs Jones for letting us use their kitchen to practise in and to Guide Wangsathaporn for coordinating all the logistics!"

If you havent yet visited Eddie Gilbert's and tried one of their signature dishes, then you must do so, says Johnny Dunhill: "Look out for locally caught lobster in the summer and our seafood platter!" he recommends.
