St Lawrence College Hosts The Second French Language Challenge For Local Primary Schools
On Tuesday 28th June, St Lawrence College hosted the second French Challenge Morning for local primary schools. 12 local schools took part, each sending a team of 4 pupils. The competing schools were: Briary Primary School from Herne Bay, Bromstone Primary, Chartfield, Wellesley House, Wingham Primary, Northbourne Park, Preston Primary, St Joseph's RC Primary, Upton Junior, Holy Trinity & St John's, St Faith's at Ash, and our own St Lawrence College Junior School.
The event took place in the Middle School building, Kirby House. The teams and their adult supporters arrived for 9.15 to register and meet the Modern Languages staff and students responsible for the day. After an introduction from Head of Modern Languages, Paul Graham, the action started at 9.30am as each group performed a short sketch, in French, that they had been asked to prepare before the event.
After this the pupils moved around a variety of different games and activities, all involving the French language: Word Games, Hangman, number games, anagrams, maths puzzles, bingo, Boules and quizzes all challenged the pupils to use the French they knew or guess if they didn't!
It was a great day, with some excellent effort, language skills and good accents displayed by all competitors along with some really good team spirit.
Paul Graham was delighted with the results: "We were pleased to see a good number of Year 5 pupils enjoying themselves and at the same time testing their knowledge in a completely different situation from their normal classroom. I feel it was a successful morning."
