1st XI v MCC - Thursday 19th May

College Captain Ryan Jones with MCC captain James Hodgson Coming off for Tea Patrick Collins bowling against MCC Will Bowra during his spell of 2 for 8

The annual fixture against the MCC took place on Thursday 19th May at Broadstairs.  The weather was glorious and a very enjoyable day was had by all.  MCC batted well to post an imposing total of 239 for 4, despite some competent bowling and fielding, Will Bowra's figures of 2 for 8 being most impressive.  Although the College got off to a good start and several batsman got going, no-one was able to go on and make a telling score, so the MCC won the game quite comfortably.

However, the day was about much more than the result and the game was certainly played within the Spirit of Cricket, which, to its great credit, MCC promotes very strongly.  The Spirit of Cricket could not have been better illustrated than by one of the visiting batsman walking for a catch at the wicket, when he was on 47, despite the fact that no-one appealed.  Our thanks go to MCC Captain, James Hodgson, for bringing a good side down and for helping to ensure such an enjoyable game.
