The Baker's Dozen
The "Baker's Dozen" celebrated another triumph on Saturday 5th March, when sixty one diners enjoyed a four course meal, interspersed with quiz rounds, to raise funds for our Leavers Ball. It was masterminded by our Head Chef Jane Green (aka Head of Home Economics) who was ably supported by staff, pupils and members of the Parents' Guild who steamed, sautéed and served throughout the event.
Diners delighted in guessing which ingredients were the mainstays of such tasty (and unlabelled) dips as "pea & coriander". As the delicious meal progressed, they were asked to pitch their palates over some scintillating sorbets infused with aromas such as elderflower, cranberry, pina colada and even spicy squash! The cheese course caused further debate as teams tried to guess the country of origin of unusual cheeses from far flung places like Norway and Denmark.
Guests were entertained with Paul Stubbings' wonderful piano playing and the Chaplain's ever-merry banter as the evening's compère. The popular winners were an "all girls" team of Lower School staff masquerading under the name of "Ladies Who'd Like to Lunch"!
It was a memorable evening and a convivial way to raise £425 towards another great St Lawrence social event the forthcoming "Beauty & the Geek" May Ball.
