Courtenay
Courtenay House caters for day pupils in Years 7 and 8. Courtenay pupils enter from both outside the College and by transferring from the College’s Junior School.
Both Courtenay House and Cameron House (the boarding house for pupils in years 7 and 8) make up the Middle School. The Middle School Building is the day pastoral centre for both day and boarding pupils, and all pupils mix freely so that friendships can easily form outside of the house system.
Close pastoral and academic supervision is provided with a housemaster, deputy housemaster and a team of tutors. Pupils have the advantage of the use of all the Senior School facilities – sports, leisure and academic – whilst benefiting from the close pastoral structure of the Middle School. A major aim of the Middle School is to prepare pupils over two years to become more independent and self-reliant so that they are ready to transfer to a Senior House in Year 9. We see it as the perfect link between primary and secondary education.
House spirit is fostered and encouraged through inter-house competitions with Cameron House. The fact that both houses mix freely adds to the general atmosphere of friendship that exists in the Middle School.
