World Maths Day 2009

Urrgh, maths! Most of us will think of long, complicated equations. But there is more to maths than that!

Maths is fun. One of the most entertaining ways to do maths is to visit the World Maths Day website. You can do this by typing “World Math Day 09” into Google. But remember, you need a username and password to play the games.

Wednesday 4th March 2009 was World Maths Day and armed with username and password, the challenge began. The clever people at World Math Day were hoping to achieve a total of 182,445,169 equations during the one ‘day’. As long as it was Wednesday somewhere in the world, you could play and the equations were counted.

You can play against people from all around the world and it is very fun. Before you play the mental maths games, you can create your own avatar (picture of yourself), so people can recognise you, but your real identify will be kept secret!

I have played this game in Maths and I.C.T., at St. Lawrence College and enjoyed it a lot.
