Upper School Sports Day 2008

My Sutton Sports Day Highlights

First things first, we all went outside at about 2:30. Year 6 and some of Year 5 had to organise the potted sports. We were all looking after different things. I was looking after the ‘catching’ with Gabriel and Smriti. All the Year 3 and Year 4’s took part in this event and they all enjoyed themselves.

Next we all sat down in our Houses which are Sutton, Fiske and Waymouth, named after three of the school’s old headmasters.

The first races were the hurdles. Under 9’s we did well and then in the Under 10’s hurdles we did well too. In the Under 11’s girls race we would have won, but Smriti didn’t run to the finish line because she thought that all she had to do was jump the hurdles, so instead of coming 1st she came 3rd. We weren’t angry with her, we all just laughed. Then it was my turn to have a go. Most of the others were faster than me, but couldn’t jump very well, but I could, so when the whistle went I was off. I stormed ahead of everyone else and won the race.

Then another good race was the 200m sprint and Gabriel was very good at that surprisingly, because in Games when we are told to run a lap he says he can’t be bothered. But in the race he came a very close 2nd place and if he had just run a bit faster, he would have got 1st place.

After that we had the 100m sprints. The best race was the Year 5 and Year 6 race with me in it. One person came 1st by about 7 metres and he was Max Farnell. Everyone else was very close and even until the end where I went ahead by about 50cm, so I got 2nd and it took them about 5 minutes to figure out who cam 3rd.

The last event was the relay. We all had to run about 100 metres although it felt like 150 metres. I was running last. When the whistle went we were in the lead, but then we were overtaken so we were 2nd, and then we got even further behind. When Smriti ran she overtook everyone and we were 1st by about 5 metres and I ran and ran but I was running against Max and so he overtook me on the inside lane and won by 2 metres, or maybe more, with Sam in 3rd not long after me.

We had already done the throwing events and Sutton had won the discus and javelin and shot, but when all the events were added up Fiske came first, but the most important thing of all was that we all had fun.

If you go to the 'Picture Gallery' page, you can see some photos from the day.
