Primary Maths Challenge 2011

On Thursday 24th November all Year 5 and 6 pupils took part in the Primary Mathematics Challenge (PMC).  The Challenge consisted of 25 interesting mathematical problems covering a wide array of topics. With rulers and calculators confiscated, but rough paper to hand, the students were ready for their challenge! The problems got increasingly harder during the 45 minutes allowed, which stretched the childrens minds and gave their brains a thorough work-out!

The children all worked exceptionally hard and they achieved some super scores, worthy of certificates. Gold certificate winners were: Alice, Jacob and Shivadeep in Year 6, and Harriet and Faith in Year 5. 9 pupils achieved silver awards and 10 were awarded bronze certificates. Every child who participated received a Took the Challenge certificate which will remind them of their contribution towards this national event.

Special mention must go to Alice Wilkening who scored 22/25. This high score entitles her to be entered for the PMC bonus round, along with the top 1 or 2% of the highest scoring pupils nationally a fantastic achievement!
