Kent Primary Schools' Swimming Champsionships

On Saturday the 3rd of May seven swimmers from St. Lawrence College Junior School went to the Black Lion Swimming Centre, in Gillingham . These were members of the school’s swimming squad and comprised of Charlotte Musgrove, Ellen Whitehead, Amy Napier, Ffion Green, Nicholas Russell, Patrick and Amy-Louise O’Callaghan.

Everyone did very well, with three children getting into the semi final which, took place the following week.

It was quite funny when Nick came out the pool from the 50-metre sprint frontcrawl and all he could say is “don’t want to talk right now”. Ellen was the same from her backstroke 50 metre. Then it was my turn to go up to the block to do the 50 metre breastroke.

The relay team stepped up to the blocks to do their thing and came 4th and won medals.

Amy-Louise, who almost didn’t make the event due to illness, swam both in the individual butterfly and the relay, as she didn’t want to let the team down.

Then I met my arch rival, Cameron Fry who was 5 seconds quicker. Now in swimming terms that is fast! I am hoping that I never bump in to him again and I mean never.

I think this year the team did very well and I think I was very privileged to be here, even though it was my first year at the school. It was an honour to represent the school and be part of a great swimming squad.

Thank you for reading, so if seen any of the team members, don’t forget to say well done for their effort and achievement.
