Inter House Quiz
On Thursday 6 March, three brave teams took to the stage in the Roberts Hall, ready to do battle in the Inter House Quiz.
Each team comprised one member of Years 3, 4, 5 and 6, and all were understandably a little nervous, especially when faced with a quiz master tougher than a combination of Anne Robinson and Jeremy Paxman.
In front of an audience of all their classmates, the teams were as follows:
For Fiske: Niamh Houlihan, Joseph Scott, Emily Young and Sapphire Hume-Almeida.
For Sutton: Emily Bennett, Charlotte Musgrove, George Friend and Charles Rigden.
For Waymouth: Mary Peskett, Kameran Sabbaghi, Amy Napier and Nirav Patel.
The quiz comprised a total of 9 rounds covering topics as
diverse as:
General Knowledge, Colours, Famous Authors, True or False, Music,
Nature, History, Dictionary Definitions and Numbers.
The teams had to answer a range of questions, some individual, some team, some written and some on the buzzer, whilst other questions required the correct use of props!
Being World Book Day the round on famous authors was particularly challenging, covering Classics like ‘Charlie and Lola’ and lesser known works like ‘Robinson Crusoe’!
The ‘True or False’ round surprised many when it was learned that the Ancient Egyptians were big fans of watermelons, and the Romans used hedgehogs to wash their togas. Most worrying perhaps was the belief of many that a successful head transplant had already been performed…but it may not be long!
The ‘Famous Historical Faces’ round included Anne Boleyn and Pope Benedict XVI, and whilst the teachers scratched their heads in confusion, the children identified everyone with relative ease.
As each round went by the lead kept changing, but as the final question was answered, the Fiske team had moved into first place, one correct answer ahead of the Waymouth team, who in turn were only one correct answer ahead of the Sutton team. Although there was an understandable range of emotions at the end, all the teams did incredibly well and were justifiably proud of how they performed.
Mr Perry promises that the Quiz will be even harder next year. You have been warned!
