Harvest Festival

An unseasonably hot October day saw a lower than usual attendance for this years Harvest Festival service in the chapel. However, those who attended were treated to wonderfully upbeat songs by the Choir, a witty talk by the Chaplain, Rev. Russell, and the opportunity to see the stained glass windows in all their glory, with sunlight pouring through!

The service opened with the traditional Harvest hymn, We Plough the Fields and Scatter, followed by the bringing of gifts to the altar, the Head Girl, Alice Wilkening, reminding us of their meanings.

We were then treated by the Choir to a lovely rendition of a song from Guyana, traditionally sung by the people when the harvest has been gathered in.

Following this, Millie Smith (Narrator), Zofia Wolney (the people) and Rev. Russell (Jesus) gave a performance reading from St Johns gospel. In his talk, Rev. Russell told us a story inspired by the well-known Parable of the Sower. Then, with the aid of Mr Bithel-Vaughan and a balloon, we were introduced to the lesser-known, but highly-entertaining, Parable of the Blower!

The Chaplain reminded us that, in order to succeed as Christians, we have to find a good place to grow, and, in order to do so, we need feeding. That is where Gods Word comes in. His Word fills us up with all we need to follow him and inspires us to share all that we have with others, especially with those less fortunate than ourselves.

The service concluded with the Lords Prayer, the traditional and very apt hymn Praise Him, and a blessing.
