Haiti Fundraising Appeal

Stepping into the Symmonds Hall on the morning of February 5th 2010, felt like walking into a room wearing 3D glasses, where everything turns either red or blue, depending which eye you close. However, this was no cinema screening of the latest movie, but one of Mr Perry’s ideas as to how we at St. Lawrence might support the earthquake victims of Haiti. His first idea was for the children to come to School dressed in the colours of the Haitian national flag – red and blue, bringing in a £1.00 for the privilege of doing so.

However, Mr Perry’s brilliance did not stop there, for in addition to creating this colourful scene, he had a 2nd cunning plan. He involved the children in colouring a large map showing Haiti, its neighbour and the earthquake zone, surrounded by the North Atlantic Ocean. Having created this beautiful piece of artwork, the children promptly spent their snack time covering it – with copper coins and silver coins of small denominations.

All in all an impressive total of £513.00 was raised to help the people of Haiti rebuild their lives, £270.00 of which came from the ‘loose change’ placed on the map. The sum of money raised is a testament to the desire of the parents and pupils of St. Lawrence College to help those in need – thank you all.
