SLCJS Football Trophy
For the first time on Saturday 27 September 2008, St Lawrence College Junior School hosted a football tournament for local junior schools.
Six schools took part in the competition: Upton, Haddon Dene, Newlands, Cliftonville, Holy Trinity Ramsgate, Northdown and SLCJS (Cliftonville and SLCJS each fielding two teams). About 80 local children participated in the event, in which normal mini-soccer rules applied, each game lasting for 12 minutes.
Play began at 9.30a.m. on the Owen Field, and the action, of a high standard throughout, was enjoyed by many spectators basking in the glorious September sunshine!
UptonPrimary School proved to be the outstanding team. Having won all their group games, they knocked out SLCJS in the semi-final before beating Newlands 3-0 in the final.
Each team received a football and individual certificates for taking part.
The winners were also presented with a trophy and book vouchers by the Head of Junior School, Mr Simon Whittle.
Congratulations to the organiser, Mr Dale Spencer (PE Co-ordinator), on a highly successful event which we intend to become an annual feature of the SLCJS sports programme.
