Christmas Concert
The sun was shining and the skies were blue, on a crisp and clear morning in December. Children walked to the Roberts Hall, whilst parents hurried past, all trying to find a seat for the Christmas Carol Concert.
It was a wonderful occasion, with beautiful music and singing from all involved. Lizzie Friend thrilled us with two pieces, one on the violin and one on the piano, showing us what a talented performer she is. Megan Bithel-Vaughan played a super lively piece on the piano, whilst Elizabeth Russell played two pieces on her recorder. Year 5 and 6 members of the Choir, who only a few days earlier had had an extremely long but, very memorable day singing alongside 8,000 other school children at the Young Voices Concert at the O2, regaled us beautifully with the ‘Polar Express medley from that occasion, including a fantastic solo by Samuel Nicholson.
The concert concluded with a piece called ‘Stargazer’ written by Roger Jones, which tells the story of the events leading up to the birth of Jesus. The whole school sang the opening song, ‘Let’s take a trip to Bethlehem’, which was followed by each class singing, in turn, the next part of the story, at one point, with the audience joining in! Each piece was accompanied brilliantly by the children on a wide variety of instruments, including drums, flutes, glockenspiels and piano. Special mention must go to Robert Edgar and Becky Cooke in Year 3, Megan Bithel-Vaughan and Emily Bennett in Year 4 who sang solos within their class songs. The final song was sung again by the whole school and left everyone feeling extremely festive and ready for the Christmas Fair.
The Deputy Mayoress of Margate said of the occasion, “The Concert was brilliant. It took me back to watching my children and almost bought tears to my eyes.” Well done to everyone involved and especially to Mr Watling who once again bought out the best in all the children and put on a wonderful show.
